Liverpool Central CAB - Annual Report 2006-2007
The demand on our service continues to be higher than our capacity to meet it. Our figures worryingly show that on average as high as 30% of people calling to the bureau for our help do not receive this and are either referred elsewhere, asked to call back or given information or a leaflet without advice. This is a reflection of both the volume of advice needs we are facing and also an ongoing shortage of volunteers.

Demand upon our service has continued to increase and we have seen the number of enquiries handled increase by 15% on the previous year, to a total of 37,900 new and ongoing issues, both at State House and the County Court. The most significant areas of increase were in debt, welfare benefits and immigration enquiries.

Bureau premises was a dominant issue facing the bureau this year. The lease was due for renewal and we knew a significant rent rise was inevitable. Despite a thorough search we could not locate suitable premises cheaper than State House and so we stayed put. However the rise in rent of 67% was a huge financial burden without any increase in our funding levels, and in order to meet this increase in the coming financial year we had to plan for cuts in bureau expenditure.
