Liverpool Central CAB - About Us
Liverpool Central CAB offers free services providing general advice and information across a wide subject area. Amongst our many services we offer help with: Debt, housing, benefit entitlements, consumer, and employment issues. Last year alone, we recorded benefit gains on behalf of our clients of approximately £1/2 million and we dealt with over £10 million worth of debt.
Liverpool Central CAB has been based in Liverpool city centre since 1939 and we handle some 35,000 enquiries each year between the main office and the CAB based in the county court. The core service provides general advice and information across a wide subject area and specialist advice is available in housing, debt and welfare benefits.
Our clients and volunteers come from all walks of life. We are committed to providing an independent advice service and volunteering opportunities to the whole community.
Advisers don't tell clients what to do, but explain their options and the possible outcomes of different courses of action. Clients are encouraged to make their own decisions and act on their own behalf. We enable clients to manage their own problems by focusing on their needs as individuals.
We act as a one-stop shop for clients. Advisers provide up to date advice and information using our unique electronic information system, link clients up with other services and agencies, help write letters and complete forms, negotiate with creditors, make phone calls on clients' behalf and represent them at court and tribunals.
CAB is an independent service providing free, confidential and impartial advice to everybody regardless of race, sex, disability, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, religion and belief.
It is the largest advice-giving network in the UK with over 2000 outlets and 22000 volunteers, dealing with nearly 6 million problems every year, in person at the bureaux, by phone and email, at outreach sessions in places like GP surgeries and courts - even in people's homes.
Inevitably the demand on our services outstrips our resources – any donation you can make would enable us to help more people.
The need for a free, confidential and impartial service we provide is on the increase – Liverpool Central CAB is very busy office dealing with approximately 35,000 enquiries each year. A further 5,000 plus enquiries are dealt with at the bureau within the County Court.
Liverpool is an area of intense multi-dimensional and persistent deprivation. As our services are free, many who would have found themselves excluded from much needed professional legal advice have found help at Liverpool Central Citizen’s Advice Bureau
• We represented 2,331 clients in court in relation to general debt and housing possession and eviction hearings
