We offer 4 different types of voluntary work:

• Advice Workers, who provide advice and information to members of the public on a range of different issues.
• Admin workers, who type correspondence and may become involved in general office duties.
• Receptionists, who "meet and greet" clients and allocate the daily advice appointments.
• Trustee Board Members, who do not work with the public but undertake a corporate governance/strategic role.

• Advice Work volunteers are asked to give 2 days per week for at least one year - daily hours are 9.30am-4pm with 1 hour lunch break

• Admin/Reception volunteers are asked to give 1 day per week for approximately 6 months (although this can be negotiated) - daily hours are 9.30am-4 with 1 hour lunch break

• Trustee Board Members meet once a month for 2-3 hours and are elected for a 3-year term.

For Advice Work volunteers no qualifications are necessary, as training will be provided. For other roles relevant experience/skills will be discussed on an individual basis. All potential volunteers will have to undertake an assessment task and be interviewed by two members of the bureau team.

Yes, we reimburse public transport expenses to and from your home address. We cannot pay parking or petrol costs.

The minimum age to volunteer is 16.

Volunteering does not affect entitlement to benefits, provided that you continue to meet the conditions of entitlement to the benefit that you are claiming. As the work is voluntary no payments are made to - we only reimburse actual expenses incurred by you in the course of you volunteering.
