About Us

Liverpool Central CAB has been based in Liverpool city centre since 1939 and we handle some 35,000 enquiries each year between the main office and the CAB based in the county court. The core service provides general advice and information across a wide subject area and specialist advice is available in housing, debt and welfare benefits.
Our clients and volunteers come from all walks of life. We are committed to providing an independent advice service and volunteering opportunities to the whole community.
Advisers don't tell clients what to do, but explain their options and the possible outcomes of different courses of action. Clients are encouraged to make their own decisions and act on their own behalf. We enable clients to manage their own problems by focusing on their needs as individuals.
We act as a one-stop shop for clients. Advisers provide up to date advice and information using our unique electronic information system, link clients up with other services and agencies, help write letters and complete forms, negotiate with creditors, make phone calls on clients' behalf and represent them at court and tribunals.
CAB is an independent service providing free, confidential and impartial advice to everybody regardless of race, sex, disability, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, religion and belief.
It is the largest advice-giving network in the UK with over 2000 outlets and 22000 volunteers, dealing with nearly 6 million problems every year, in person at the bureaux, by phone and email, at outreach sessions in places like GP surgeries and courts - even in people's homes.
How we are funded

Liverpool Central CAB is a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. Core funding to support the general advice service, money advice and the County Court Service CAB is received from the Local Authority. In addition we receive income from the Legal Services Commission to deliver contracts for specialist advice services in housing, debt, welfare benefits and a Housing Possession Court Duty Service. We also generate some income by providing outreach services.
Funding from Charitable Trusts and local businesses has been raised for specific projects, in particular the cost of expanding the IT network and special equipment purchase.
A small amount of income is derived annually from client/individual donations, which is reflective of the support we have built up, based upon a quality public service.
Inevitably the demand on our services outstrips our resources – any donation you can make would enable us to help more people.
